Immigration Outlook — Upcoming Global Immigration changes for January 2025

Global Immigration updates effective January 2025, offering an early look at key changes to help you prepare in advance.
🇦🇺 Australia: The Australian government has exceeded its net overseas migration forecast, recording 445,600 migrants in the 2023-24 financial year, surpassing the projected 395,000. This increase is due to a surge in international students and New Zealand citizens. The government plans to revise its migration projections in the upcoming budget update.
🇩🇪 Germany: Germany has reintroduced border controls and implemented stricter deportation measures due to recent security concerns. This marks a significant policy shift from its previous open-door approach.
🇸🇬 Singapore: The qualifying salary for new Employment Pass (EP) applications has increased to at least SGD 5,600, and SGD 6,200 for the financial services sector. This adjustment aims to ensure that EP holders meet the prevailing wage standards.
🇨🇭 Switzerland: The Federal Council has lifted quotas for Croatian nationals, reinstating full freedom of movement for them to work in Switzerland. This change removes previous limitations on short-term and residence permits for Croatian workers.
🇬🇧 United Kingdom: The UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) has increased the financial maintenance requirements for Student visa applicants. Students must now demonstrate higher levels of funds to cover living expenses during their studies.
Additionally, a new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) requirement has been introduced for visa-exempt visitors, including those from the US and EU. Travellers must apply online, provide personal details, and pay a £10 fee. The ETA is valid for two years or until the passport expires.
