Global Immigration updates primarily effective in March 2025, with specific dates provided where applicable, offering an early look at key changes to help you prepare in advance.
🇬🇧 The UK will require electronic travel authorisation (ETA) for all European visitors. The ETA will cost £16, an increase from the previous £10 fee, and will be valid for two years. Effective: 2 April 2025
🇪🇸 Spain will officially end its golden visa programme, which granted residency through significant investments. Non-EU nationals can instead apply for the non-lucrative residence visa, requiring proof of sufficient financial resources and prohibiting employment. Effective: 3 April 2025
Changes on the horizon
🇨🇦 Canada will implement changes to the express entry system, prioritising applicants in high-demand sectors such as healthcare, technology, and engineering. Additional points will be awarded for French-language proficiency. Expected: In the coming months
🇺🇸 The U.S. administration is expected to implement stricter visa application scrutiny and enforcement measures, focusing on increased deportations and adjustments to H-1B and student visa policies. Expected: Later in 2025
