Corporate Immigration — Border Controls re-introduced in Germany

Overview
Effective 16 September, Germany will start executing border controls at all land borders for initially 6 months. The controls are being introduced for national security and to prevent irregular migration to Germany.
Who will be affected?
This measurement will affect everyone who is travelling to Germany by public transport or car, including people living near the borders, commuting for work.
Background
Leading up to the European Football Championship, held in Germany from 14 June – 14 July 2024, the Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser, re-introduced temporary border controls at all borders, as part of security measures. Since October 2023 border controls are in place at the borders with Poland, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Austria to prevent irregular migration and human smuggling. Minister Faeser says, that in order to protect people from possible terrorist attacks, as happened in Solingen a few weeks ago, there is a need to extend the border controls to the borders with France, Luxembourg, Belgium, The Netherlands and Denmark.
Impact
It is expected that all people travelling from and to Germany will experience delays, due to the announced border controls, which includes the festive season in December.

If you need to travel to Germany in the next coming months, please make sure you carry a valid entry visa or residence permit card and passport at all times and calculate extra travel time when scheduling your trip abroad. If your residence permit card is about to expire, make sure you apply for an extension on time and ask for a fictional certificate for travelling.
