China Starts to Issue New Version of Visas and Residences Permits for Foreigners

The exit-entry departments of China’s public security authorities will start issuing new versions of visas and residence permits to foreigners from 01 June 2019.

Who will be affected?

All foreigners who apply for Chinese visas and residence permits.

Background 

The new version of the documents are sticker-like papers based on the design standards of the DOC9303 machine readable travel documents of the International Civil Aviation Organisation, with multiple physical anti-counterfeit technologies included.

Impact

Compared to the old version, the new version includes adjustments in the format of the documents, sections and machine-readable codes. The means and requirements for application, procedures for examination and approval, and the standards, charges and requirements of port examinations will remain the same. New visa photos in color taken within the past six months, plain white background, 2-inch uncrowned photos will also apply.

Santa Fe Analysis

The local Bureau has adopted the new visa release from 01 June 2019. Foreigners may be required to physically attend the exit-entry department for a in person photograph or facial data acquisition.
