Immigration update: Philippines | Renewal of Expired Re-entry Permit at the Philippine Airports
On 28 February 2021, the Bureau of Immigration issued an advisory allowing foreign nationals to renew their re-entry permits at any of the international airports upon arrival.
Who will be affected?
+ Foreign nationals who are holders of a valid immigrant visa (e.g. 13(a) visa, Permanent Resident Visa, Quota Visa) but with an expired Re-entry permit
+ Foreign nationals who are holders of a valid non-immigrant visa (e.g. 9(g) visa, Temporary Resident Visa, 9(d) visa, 9(f) visa) but with expired Special Return Certificate (SRC)
Background
On 19 February 2021, the Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra has issued a Memorandum to Commissioner Jaime H. Morente to allow foreign nationals who are allowed to enter the Philippines to renew their Re-entry or Special Return Certificate (SRC) at the airport upon arrival to the Philippines.
On 25 February 2021, Commissioner Morente directed all the Bureau of Immigration’s departments who are responsible for the arrival of foreign passengers and issuance of the re-entry permits and SRC to draft the necessary guidelines pursuant to the DOJ directive dated 19 February 2021.
Impact
1. Foreign nationals who are holders of valid immigrant and non-immigrant visas but with expired re-entry permits and SRCs who will enter the Philippine are allowed to renew and pay the necessary fees at the airport upon arrival.
2. Arriving foreign nationals with expired re-entry permits and SRC should not be excluded from entering the Philippines on the grounds of an “expired re-entry permit or SRC.”
