Immigration Update: Singapore | Stricter housing scrutiny
19 September 2018
Stricter housing scrutiny for pass applicants and holders
From 14 September 2018, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will only issue a work pass or update the registered residential address if the work pass applicant or holder’s residential address meets certain housing requirements. For the issuance process, the MOM will check the proposed address to determine if their set of requirements are met, which will differ depending upon the type of accommodation. For existing pass holders, any change in residential address must be updated with the MOM within 2 weeks.
Who will be affected?
Residential address details will need to be supplied for all new and renewal applications for the following pass types:
– Employment Pass (EP)
– S Pass
– Training Employment Pass (TEP)
– Dependent’s Pass (DP)
– Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP)
– Work Permit (WP)
Background:
This requirement is being enforced to enable the MOM to communicate with pass holders on important updates during emergencies or on pass-related matters.
Santa Fe Analysis:
Employers or pass holders should provide the residential address details as required by the MOM. For pass holders who do not have a permanent residential address during the issuance of pass, the temporary address (e.g. hotel / service apartment address) can be used.
Once the permanent residential address is available, the details should be updated with the MOM within 2 weeks.
