Immigration update: Malaysia | Exemption for foreign travellers who hold a valid long-term pass for entry
Exemption for the Admission of Foreign Citizens into Malaysia who hold a valid long-term pass for Malaysia will take effect from 1st November 2021, provided the individual holds an active pass at the time of entry
Who are affected?
Foreigners who have a valid long-term pass in Malaysia
Background
The Malaysian Immigration Department has announced that, the categories (below) of foreign nationals holding Long Term Visit Pass in Malaysia are allowed to enter Malaysia without having to obtain approval from the Malaysian Immigration Department (MID) through the MyTravelPass (MTP) / MyEntry system provided that the individual has a valid pass.
The following is a list of Long-Term Visit Passes that are allowed to enter Malaysia without having to apply through MTP / MYEntry:
• Diplomat (Exemption Order) / Dependent / Foreign Maid
• Employment Pass (Category I, II, III) / Dependents / Foreign Maid
• Resident Pass-Talent (RP-T) / Dependents / Foreign Maid
• Professional Visit Pass – Specialist
• Professional Visit Pass
• Permanent Resident (PR) / Spouse to PR / Child to PR
• Long Term Pass (Husband / Wife / Child) to Citizens
• Senior Citizen Pass
• Widow Pass to Citizens
• Student / Dependent / Guardian Pass
• Malaysia My Second Home Pass (MM2H) / Dependents / Foreign Maid
• Residence Pass
• Temporary Working Visit Pass (PLKS)
• Foreign Maid (PRA)
The following foreign nationals who are not under the stated category would still need to apply through the MTP / MYEntry system for permission to enter Malaysia:
• Social Visit Pass
• Holders of expired Long-Term Visit Passes
• Application for Employment Pass (Category I, II, III) / Resident Pass-Talent (RP-T) / Dependents / Foreign Maid and Professional Visit Pass (newly approved)
• Short Term Business Traveller
Impact
Travel into Malaysia is made easier as more foreign individuals are returning to Malaysia, however the entry procedure upon arrival in Malaysia is still subject to the existing immigration rules that are in force as well as health screening and quarantine procedures by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).
