Immigration update: Switzerland | Important steps towards normalcy
The Swiss government has decided to lift most Coronavirus restrictions as the infection levels by the Omicron variant have not translated into a peak of hospitalisations. Likewise, it abolishes the sanitary measures imposed at the borders.
Switzerland follows other European countries, including Denmark, the United Kingdom, France, and the Netherlands, which have been gradually loosening COVID measures in the past weeks.
The most important highlights effective February 17, 2022:
- Covid certificate is no longer required to enter restaurants, bars, or other closed places such as sports facilities, theaters, and concert halls.
- The use of masks is no longer required in schools, shops, concert halls, or at work. The use of masks remains mandatory in public transport or health centers until the end of March 2022.
- Private meetings can take place without restrictions on the number of participants and large events no longer require authorization.
- The requirement that people who test positive for COVID-19 self-isolate for five days remain valid.
Country Entry Provisions
The sanitary measures applied at the Swiss borders are lifted. Therefore, it will no longer be necessary to present a certificate of vaccination, proof of recovery, or negative test, nor an entry form. Nevertheless, the pandemic-related entry requirements remain in place for third-country nationals.
