Immigration update: Japan | Relaxation of border entry measures
As of 30 September 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan released an announcement regarding the new entry of foreign nationals into Japan, effective from 11 October 2022.
Who will be affected?
All new entries into Japan for tourists, short/long-term status, foreign students, and entry for business purposes.
Impact
The (ERFS) system that was in place will no longer be required. All visa restrictions will be lifted from the 11 October 2022.
In addition, the measure to limit the entry of foreign tourists to those on package tours will be lifted.
Measure still in place
All returnees and new entrants are required to provide either a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate (3 doses) of vaccines *on the Emergency Use List of the World Health Organization (WHO) or a certificate of negative result of pre-departure COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to departing from the original country/region.
