Sustainability — Santa Fe’s educational initiative takes off in Singapore with Westbourne College

Ruth Lockwood, our Head of Strategic Sales for Southeast Asia, planted a seed of sustainability in the region, leading to the development of a meaningful educational project at Santa Fe. This transformation journey began within the walls of our Singapore office, where we discovered a plethora of unused folders. Rather than default to recycling, Ruth envisioned a greater purpose, a chance to imbue the younger generation with the values of sustainability through a more hands-on approach. We reached out to Gavin Clark, the esteemed Headmaster of Westbourne College, with a proposal to repurpose these folders in the spirit of sustainability.

On October 27th, Westbourne College embraced this challenge with open arms. Our Santa Fe team proudly delivered over 200 folders to the school, setting the stage for an imaginative and educational competition. The students at Westbourne College were not just passive recipients; they became active agents of change. Paired up, they channelled their creativity into prototypes, showcasing their ideas through PowerPoint presentations to their lecturers and Headmaster, igniting a myriad of sustainable ideas.

The ingenuity of the winning students shines as they repurposed folders into recycle bins, card holders and laptop bags, a move that perfectly mirrors Santa Fe’s ethos of sustainability and demonstrates practical environmental action.

Our initiative with Westbourne College is a testament to Santa Fe’s unwavering dedication to sustainability. By implementing the three R’s—Reduce, meaning cutting down on waste; Reuse, which involves finding new applications for old items; and Recycle, the process of turning waste into new products—in our workplace, we don’t just aim to reduce costs and our environmental footprint; we strive to inspire, foster innovation and demonstrate our commitment to a better world.
