Immigration Update: Malaysia | Certificates for Pakistani Nationals
12 October 2018
Original Certification of Certificates for Pakistani Nationals
The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) will require the original Certification of Certificates for Pakistani Nationals to be submitted to them for new Employment Pass applications, starting 1 November 2018. This also applies to Dependent Pass applications.
Who will be affected?
Foreign Knowledge Workers and their dependents, whose applications are being submitted through MDEC.
Background:
Effective 1 November 2018, MDEC will require the following original documents to be submitted to them for all Employment Pass or other pass applications:
- A copy of the educational certificate with the original attestation by the Malaysian High Commission or Consulate-General in Pakistan.
- A copy of the marriage / birth certificate / proof of relationship documents with the original attestation by the Malaysian High Commission or Consulate-General in Pakistan.
This requirement is only applicable for new applications and not for renewals.
Impact:
The above-mentioned documents will be retained by MDEC and the documents will not be returned to the Foreign Knowledge Workers. Applicants should factor in the additional time necessary to obtain the required certification on documents before an Employment Pass application can be submitted.
Santa Fe analysis:
Santa Fe Consultants will advise the impacted Foreign Knowledge Workers on a case by case basis to ensure that the original attestation is completed.
