Immigration update: Philippines | Additional requirements for Alien Employment Permit Cancellation
Additional requirements for Alien Employment Permit Cancellation
The Department of Labour in the Philippines has issued additional requirements for the cancellation of the Alien Employment Permit (AEP)
Complete requirements for the cancellation are as follows:
- Cancellation Letter Request from company authorized representative
- Original AEP Card issued *new (where previously a printout copy was sometimes accepted)
- Authorization Letter of the Company or Employee to your representative / liaison officer *new
- Valid ID of Company Representative / Liaison Officer *new
- Location Map indicating address of the Company *new
Background
AEP cancellation is part of the mandatory downgrading process required for terminating the employment of a foreign national who is required to have an AEP at the onset. This includes the most common work visa types but not limited to 47a2, 9G, 9D visa holders.
Implementation
March 1, 2019
Santa Fe Analysis
Where previously a copy of the AEP may be acceptable for cancellation, it is now necessary to submit the hard copy card.
Companies must ensure AEP card is surrendered before assignee departs as the responsibility of the AEP is on the company by virtue of the sponsorship.
Santa Fe services include downgrading covering the AEP cancellation.
