Immigration update: Singapore| Exemption from job advertising requirements
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has revised the salary threshold for job advertisement requirements as part of the Ministry’s efforts in ensuring fair employment practices are being observed to consider candidates fairly for job opportunities.
Who will be affected?
Employers and foreign applicants applying for Employment Pass (EP) will be affected by this change.
Background
All foreigners who intend to work in Singapore must have a valid work pass before they start work. In order to engage foreigners to work in Singapore, employers must ensure that they hold a valid work pass.
The fixed monthly salary threshold has been raised from the initial SGD12,000 to SGD15,000 in 2018.
Implementation
In a bid to further strengthen the guidelines, MOM has made extra revisions to the Fair Consideration Framework, and has broaden advertising requirements pertaining to the salary threshold in the consideration of exempting the position from advertisement.
As of 1 May 2020, the fixed monthly salary threshold has been raised to SGD20,000 and above. Employers will now need to advertise vacancies on the job portal, MyCareersFuture.sg if the position is drawing a fixed monthly salary of less than SGD20,000.
Analysis
MOM has been actively tightening and revising their immigration policies and work pass requirements, and this additional step will likely further tighten on the assessment and considerations of all Work Pass applications going forward.
