Corporate Immigration — Belgium immigration updates 2024 salary thresholds
Belgium immigration updates 2024 salary thresholds
Santa Fe Relocation is pleased to announce the publication of the new salary thresholds for Belgium, applicable to immigration applications in 2024. These thresholds, pertinent to different regions within the country, are detailed below.
Affected parties
Background
Annually, Belgium delineates new salary thresholds for inbound immigration, with specific rates determined by each respective region. The Flanders and Brussels regions have disclosed their updated thresholds; we anticipate Wallonia’s imminent alignment, likely echoing the augmentations adopted by the Brussels Capital region.
Impact
Effective 1 January 2024, the revised thresholds apply to all applications initiated on or after this date. Employers seeking acquisition or renewal of work authorisation must adjust salaries to meet or exceed the newly established benchmarks. Non-compliance will precipitate automatic application denial.
For applications pending as of 1 January 2024, employers must proactively amend salaries to satisfy the updated requirements, concurrently notifying the regional authorities of such modifications.
Moreover, it is imperative that the salaries of foreign employees already operating within the region align with the new stipulations by 1 January 2024. Employers bear the onus of appropriate adjustments to ensure unerring compliance.
The latest salary thresholds, segregated by region, are enumerated in the subsequent tables.

Individuals from countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) aspiring to work in Belgium must secure either a single permit or a work permit-B. The contracted gross salary should be explicitly stated in the employment contract or the secondment letter during the initial application for the single permit or work permit-B. Upon extension requests, governmental entities will verify the actual remittance of the agreed salary.
Points of importance
- These figures represent gross annual salary amounts, evaluated exclusively on the gross salary or assured gross salary components reflecting the work services, predetermined ahead of the work performance.
- The guaranteed average monthly minimum income is applicable to employees outside the purview of any joint committee and must be adhered to, even for part-time roles. Further details on the average monthly minimum income can be found on the website of the Federal Public Service Employment, Labour and Social Dialogue.
