Malaysia | Imposed entry ban on citizens from 23 countries
Malaysia has entered a recovery phase for the COVID-19 pandemic. The order related to this is made under the Prevention Act and Infectious Disease Control 1988 and Police Act 1967. The original RMCO was to end 31st August 2020, however it has been extended to 31st December 2020.
On the 1st September 2020 the Immigration Department of Malaysia has imposed a ban on citizens of India, Indonesia and Philippines to enter Malaysia from the 7th September 2020.
Further to this announcement another 20 countries has been added to this list, making it a total of 23 countries.
Who will be affected?
The final list of countries is as below, as of today:

5. Peru
6. Colombia
7. South Africa
8. Mexico
9. Spain
10. Argentina
11. Chile
12. Iran
13. UK
14. Bangladesh
15. Saudi Arabia
16. Pakistan
17. France
18. Turkey
19. Italy
20. Germany
21. Iraq
22. Philippines
23. Indonesia
The affected pass holders are as of below:
• PR (Malaysian Permanent Residence)
• MM2H (Malaysia Second Home Programme)
• Expatriates (including EP1 & PVP)
• Resident Pass-Talent (RP-T)
• Student visa
• Spouse visa (LTVSP)
Background
The Malaysian government made the decision following advice from the Health Ministry to ensure Covid-19 is contained in the country.
Implementation
Effective from 7th September 2020 onwards.
Santa Fe Analysis
The government of Malaysia might impose the same restrictions on citizens of other countries experiencing a spike in cases.
Passport holders of the affected countries travelling by air can transit at KLIA but not allowed to pass through Malaysia Immigration gates to come into Malaysia.
Malaysian citizens can come back to Malaysia from the affected countries but subject to mandatory quarantine upon arrival.
